I didn’t know icicles could grow like this

While walking between buildings today on my university campus, I came across this strange icicle.

It was literally growing out of a pole, and from various angles, looked somewhat like a rib cage. The pole itself was also entirely covered in ice.

I got a gourmet cupcake delivered to my door

I got an interesting surprise yesterday – a staff member at my apartment building came to my door and hand-delivered this gourmet cupcake and a $10 gift card to Jimmy John’s (which happens to be my favorite sandwich shop).

How do I know that it was a gourmet cupcake and not a regular cupcake? Because it came in a box that looks more expensive than the cupcake itself.

That picture doesn’t serve that gourmet cupcake justice – the cupcake itself was larger than the size of my fist.

My apartment staff has a history of giving random gifts to their residents, like chocolates during the holiday season and random free food at the front desk, but I thought it was just funny that they gave out gourmet cupcakes this time.

A nice not-so-nice surprise

I received a notice on Tuesday that there would be some construction going on in my psychology research lab office yesterday. So, I didn’t go to my office yesterday just in case they were still doing construction at the time I normally go in.

When I arrived at my office today, I encountered a nice little not-so-nice surprise.

They finished all the construction, but it seems like they thought it would be acceptable to leave massive brown streaks of who knows what on the wall and on the floor.

The worst part is that I use the office at the far end of this hallway as well, so I’ll be repeatedly walking through this gritty splatter of strange substance while I’m here…

I’m so nice that I got you a heart-shaped donut today for Valentine’s day.

I’m so nice that I even ate it for you so you wouldn’t get fat.

You bought toothpaste? Brushing your teeth must be a hobby, then!

Amazon has this interesting feature called “Recommendations.”

The website analyzes your browsing history and recent purchases, and determines what other items you might be interested in purchasing. For example, if you tend to look at a lot of books, it will conclude that you are interested in reading, and suggest some good, high-rated books for you.

I recently ran out of toothpaste.

And what better place to replenish your toothpaste supply than Amazon, right?

I went ahead and ordered some toothpaste from Amazon because I didn’t really want to go shopping to a general store in-person. After completing my order, I returned to Amazon’s home page…

And saw that my list of recommended items was completely dominated by personal hygiene items.

Apparently, Amazon decided that, after my single (and first ever) purchase of toothpaste on Amazon, I must definitely have an interest in personal hygiene. So not only did it recommend even more toothpaste (because the two tubes that I just ordered clearly weren’t enough), but it also suggested some Q-tips to go along with my toothpaste (because toothbrushes are clearly only for noobs).

In other news, if you decide to have a baked potato for an evening snack and stick it in the microwave, try not to forget about it overnight.

Or else you might end up having cold baked potato for breakfast the next morning when you finally notice it’s still sitting in the microwave.

How not to claim appointment slots in my calendar

We’ve all made the AM/PM mistake – we intend to set our alarm clock for 7:00 AM, but instead we accidentally set it to 7:00 PM and don’t wake up until dinner is about to be served.

I accidentally made that error yesterday when I opened up appointment slots in my calendar. I meant to create a slot for 5:30 PM, but somehow accidentally set it to 5:30 AM. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice my mistake.

Even more unfortunately, someone ACTUALLY CLAIMED THE SPOT.

Why do people do this to me
