Circuit Clerk Fail

Based on my experiences from the past few days, I have compiled a list of things that can go wrong while going to your circuit clerk’s office to submit some paperwork.

The first thing that can go wrong is that the receptionist who answers the phone when you call to check business hours has no idea what she is talking about, and tells you that the office is open the day after Christmas, even though Christmas was on a Sunday and the day after Christmas is Christmas Day Observed.

“We are open every week day.”

“Are you sure? Even though this coming Monday is the day after Christmas?”

“We are open every week day.”

“I am going to be very disappointed if you guys are not open.”

“We are open every week day.”

Guess what they were on the day after Christmas?

Closed.

Guess what I was?

Very disappointed.

Earlier today, I stopped by the office for my second attempt. Everything seemed to be going as planned, except for the fact that the circuit clerk’s office is so concerned about security that the only way to communicate with the person with whom you are working is to talk through a five-inch hole in a safety-glass panel and pass papers through a tiny slit towards the bottom of the panel.

Whoever built the glass panel apparently also thought it would be a good idea to make it soundproof as well, because I wasn’t able to hear half the things the receptionist was saying unless I shoved my ear directly up into the tiny hole.

After finally managing to marginally understand what she was saying, I figured out that I was apparently supposed to show more papers to a judge. Although I was slightly confused, I agreed and headed over to the court room.

After checking in with another receptionist, I was put into a waiting list along with other people who were waiting to see the judge for other random reasons.

The line seemed to be going relatively fast until a random old man started having issues.

Apparently, from what I was able to pick up, the issue was that the man didn’t comply with the requests of the security officials who were guarding the entrance of the building. Normally, you’re supposed to remove all items from your pockets and place them in a box, and take off all heavy outerwear, then walk through a metal detector while your belongings go through an x-ray machine (similar to what you do at an airport). Supposedly, the man thought it would be a great idea to not remove his jacket, even though he was told to multiple times.

After he was done wasting everyone’s time, two old women went up to the judge and started having another argument. Apparently, one of the old women’s daughters was supposed to show up to plead guilty or not guilty to a traffic violation she had received, but instead of showing up to court, her mother and her grandmother came on her behalf.

After another good handful of minutes of the judge explaining that the person who receives the violation must show up in court and there can be no substitutions, the old women finally gave up and the daughter was given another opportunity to show up to make her plea.

After over half an hour, it was finally my turn to spend five seconds giving the judge a sheet of paper.

Because I’m sure that story made you as frustrated as I was when I was in the circuit clerk’s office, here’s a random picture I took today of a tranquil lake to soothe your nerves.

Action-Packed Content Coming Soon

I haven’t really been up to much since my winter break started, so I’m running out of things to blog about. The only things I’ve been doing lately are reprogramming portions of my website, planning out more content for the future, watching YouTube videos, playing competitive Tetris a little bit, and watching our family business.

I do have a few interesting things coming up in the near future, though. This Thursday afternoon, I’ll be headed over to your best friend Ed Lam’s house to make another video for you. He’s such a fan-favorite that I’m thinking about handing over my entire website over to him because you guys like him so much.

… Before you start sending me messages, no, I’m just kidding.

Sometime next week, Ben Chow, Ed Lam, and I will be going to Buffalo Wild Wings again and filming another video like we did last year. I’m not sure if Ben will have any interesting stories like he did last year, like the one about how he got fired from his job because he put pizza and salt in the ice cream section, but I’m sure something intriguing will happen.

A Beast of a Hamburger

Today, I ate the largest hamburger that I think I’ve ever had in my entire life.

It was from a Mexican restaurant across the street from our family business called Azteca Restaurant, and they call it the Durango burger. It tastes almost exactly like a Whopper from Burger King, but it’s a lot bigger (almost twice the size), a lot fresher, and it has fresh mushrooms in it.

I wanted to take a picture of it, but I was already 70% done with it when I remembered, so that’s why the picture is of a partially-eaten burger.

Durango Burger

It doesn’t look that delicious because I took the photo with my iPod in a low-light setting, but it was probably the one of the best hamburgers I’ve ever had.

If you want to check them out, their website is http://www.aztecamex.com.

Pecan Pie is Difficult to Cut

Happy Christmas.

I learned something today.

I learned that pecan pie is extremely difficult to cut.

If you just bring a knife down on the pie as if you were cutting a regular pie, all the pecans get pushed away from the knife and you end up with a huge strip in your pie where there are no pecans.

If you try too hard to make sure you cut the pecans at the same time as cutting the pie, you’ll forget to cut the pie, then when you go back to cut the bottom part of the pie, the pecans will have moved to a different location and you’ll end up cutting each pecan more than once, and you’ll end up with diced pecans rather than cut pecans.

Does this sound confusing?

Well it’s as confusing as it sounds.

I’m currently at our family business being bored. Today is Christmas Eve, so we’re closing early, but I still have to wait for all our customers to finish before I can close down.

Our parking lot is almost empty except for a few cars belonging to a few remaining customers, and a lonely shopping cart in the middle of nowhere from the supermarket next door.

I’m going to go tidy up and get ready to leave now.

New Gas Station

I am now back in my home town in Illinois.

After coming back home, I stopped by our family business with my mom. On the way there, I noticed that there was a new gas station that was constructed while I was gone for the fall semester.

New Gas Station

The picture is blurry because I took it from a moving vehicle.

This new gas station is currently wtfpwning all the competition because its price per gallon is about 20 to 30 cents below other local competitors. As of right now, it’s even lower than the price at Sam’s Club, which almost always has the lowest gas prices because it’s a membership-only store.
