No, this is not a sponsored post … I just love T-Mobile

Also, even though the crust on that pizza looks like cardboard, I swear it’s just the camera lighting and it’s actually a real pizza…

I met a hedgehog today

Apparently, keeping hedgehogs as pets is a thing.

To get the quick questions out of the way – yes, it is real; no, it is not mine; and no, I did not hold it.

This is my friend Karen’s brother’s hedgehog. Owning a hedgehog as a pet is illegal in California, but Karen’s brother goes to university in Arizona, which is a neighboring state. Hedgehogs are legal to own in Arizona, which is how he has one. He was back visiting his family in California, and brought the hedgehog along with him.

I wasn’t really able to make a good assessment as to how much I like hedgehogs just based off this visit, primarily because this particular hedgehog smelled absolutely terrible, and all it did was exhale really loudly and curl up into a ball. I tried touching it a bit, but its spines are obviously prickly, so I didn’t really have any further interest in interacting with it.

I’ve only ever had pet dogs in the past (I guess I also had a pet fish for a little bit while I was taking care of it for an eighth-grade science project), and dogs are obviously extremely friendly and interactive. I’m not exactly sure what the appeal is of having a hedgehog as a pet is … it’s not like you can cuddle with it or sleep with it, unless you enjoy receiving amateur acupuncture all night.

My visit to TrikSlyr

Yesterday, TrikSlyr, one of Karen’s friends, did a 24-hour stream and invited us over to participate in the Just Dance segment of his show. I had never played Just Dance before, and I’m not really that great at music/rhythm games in general (I play the real guitar but suck at Guitar Hero), but I still agreed to play.

Once we arrived, we had to wait a while at the front door before TrikSlyr came out to let us in. He came down in a squirrel onesie, but he specifically asked me not to take a photo.

Waiting for TrikSlyr to get us

Apparently, I’m not actually that awful at Just Dance.

Seeing as the entire premise of the game is to dance along to music, a majority of the VOD from TrikSlyr’s Just Dance stream is muted on Twitch. But, there is one small non-muted segment that you can watch:

(If you’re from the future, it might be too late to watch, as Twitch changed their policy on VODs and no longer saves them all permanently.)

Having Korean food for the first time in a while, two days in a row

I’m not really much of a fan of Korean food. Even though my parents are Korean and I grew up in a Korean-culture family, my preferred type of food has usually been any kind of food except for Korean.

Apart from 김치, Korean food is known for its boiling hot liquids to go along with rice.

There is where the problem lies – I hate hot liquids. I’m pretty sure I just have an overall relatively high body temperature and I emit a lot of heat, so I usually like eating cold things. One of my favorite snacks is ice cream, and my favorite drink is actually just fresh, filtered water at the freezing point. A majority of the items on a Korean menu comes with flusteringly hot soup that makes my body feel itchy from the inside, so I usually opt to get a dry meat-rice-vegetables dish instead.

Since moving to California and being away from my parents, there has been no reason for me to eat Korean food. There aren’t any Korean restaurants around where I live, and when I cook, I just buy raw meat and season it with a bit of salt, pepper, and Italian herbs, so I hadn’t had Korean food for a while.

If you saw my blog post from yesterday, you’ll see that I went to visit my aunt and uncle; while I was at their farm, we drove down to the main city area and stopped by a Korean restaurant.

Then, earlier today, I went to Los Angeles with one of my friends so she could meet up with her childhood best friend. There’s a lot more Asian food in Los Angeles than there is where I live, so we went to a Korean tofu house (I got some meat, vegetables, and rice, rather than the stew).

My aunt and uncle’s farm

Earlier today, I visited my aunt and uncle’s farm. Both of them are retired, but because my uncle is a very active person, they bought a plot of land deep into the mounts and essentially built their own farm from scratch. After pretty much a 20-minute drive up mountainous terrain, I made my way to this:

This is my bed

My bed has an interesting story to go along with it.

This is my bed

Back on January 21, 2017, I ordered this black faux leather platform bed, in anticipation of it arriving on time for my January 24 move-in date to my new apartment. The bed was supposed to arrive on the day of my own arrival, so the timing would be perfect. I ordered a mattress to go along with it (which is also visible in the photo).

My bed got lost.

After waiting an extra six days for my bed with an unknown shipping status, lost somewhere in OnTrac Shipping’s facilities, I reached out to Amazon to see exactly what they could do about my lost bed. After realizing that I am a Prime member and I was supposed to receive my bed a long time ago, they sent out another one on January 30, 2017.

That bed successfully arrived on February 2, so I was finally able to assemble the bed and place my mattress on it, rather than leaving the mattress on the floor. Then, something very interesting happened.

Apparently, after 13 days of my original bed aimlessly wandering around, nowhere to be seen (because the tracking number had no updates since January 24), it had somehow found its way to my apartment. So now, in the span of two days, I have two beds.

This is my bed

I’m obviously going to return that bed, because I only paid for one bed, and I don’t need a second bed to begin with anyway. But, I hope that at least OnTrac will be the one responsible for relocating this 90-pound bed back to the manufacturer or warehouse, rather than Amazon having to pay for an error they did not commit…
