OC Night Market

Obviously by forceful invitation, and not because I actually voluntarily wanted to, I went to the Orange County Night Market yesterday.

OC Night Market

The Night Market is basically a massive parking lot where shops rent out a little space where they can set up a booth and sell wildly overpriced food. That’s basically all there is at the Night Market – food. I guess there was a concert all the way in the back, and a few other vendors here and there, but the entire place is just mostly littered and blanketed with food sales booths.

There isn’t really a place to sit down either, unless it’s on the ground off in the corner. There are tiny amounts of tiny tables set up, but those are pretty much all already always occupied. Overall, it isn’t really exactly the best eating environment.

I’d imagine this is a fun place to go for people who like to socialize, but for someone like me who doesn’t want to be around crowds of people (at least, not when I’m actually a part of the crowd), it’s just an exhausting experience.

The good part about this trip, however, is that I got to meet my friend’s dog. Parking at the Night Market is just an extra fee to tack on to the admission cost and overpriced food, so instead, we drove to our friend Matt’s house, parked near there for free, then walked about a mile or so to the Night Market.

Here is another photo of the Night Market, closer to when it was getting darker, with Matt smiling in the bottom-right corner; the picture following that is of his dog Diesel, who seems to have a tail of steel.

KBBQ trip during our Overwatch boot camp

My guide on how to get the most out of a self-cook, all-you-can-eat Korean barbecue trip is still a work in progress. And by work in progress, I mean that I haven’t started yet. But, until I get started, I’m building up some good experience by continuing to go to KBBQ.

Tempo Storm’s Overwatch team is currently in one of our southern California team houses for a boot camp, and I accompanied them to a KBBQ trip.

Coincidentally, our League of Legends team, which also has a team house in southern California, also stopped by the same KBBQ place, so I snapped a photo of them too. (I had to blur out a few faces because they’re new members of the team who we haven’t officially announced yet.

My first eel experience in California

I went to a ramen house with a few of my friends today.

Eating eel at a ramen house

If you’ve been keeping up with my blog and are familiar with my eating habits, you know that I hate eating hot liquids. You may be wondering what exactly I would get at a ramen house? Luckily, even restaurants dedicated to serving hot liquids have dry food options.

I occasionally ate eel back when I still lived in Illinois, as my mom would sometimes cook it Korean-style as a side dish. But, since moving to California, I haven’t had eel.

I like having variety in my life, so usually when I go to a restaurant, I’ll order something different every time. Because I didn’t have eel for so long, that was today’s dish of choice.

Tempo Storm Fireside Festival

Tempo Storm hosted a Fireside Festival in Rancho Cucamonga, CA earlier today.

The Fireside Festival was essentially a regular Hearthstone Fireside Gathering, but a lot larger than usual with way more events and notable attendees. Because we were the organization hosting the event, I set myself up in the corner to ensure that there were no problems and the event would run smoothly. I was in the back with Rentaro and RagingCherry, who was running the tournament part of the Festival.

Usually, I post photos of the stuff around me, but I decided to actually post photos of myself today for a change.

First up is a photo with Hyped. He’s a professional Overwatch player for Immortals now, but he used to be a professional Hearthstone player for Tempo Storm, and was one of the people who ran the classic Tempo Storm Hearthstone Meta Snapshot. I’m friends with his girlfriend, so I tweeted this photo at her and said “hey look who I found.”

Part of the activities that were offered were designing your own card and putting your face in the space where the card art would be. I made myself an 8/8 for 8 mana that has a Battlecry of bringing your opponent down to 1 HP, then losing the game anyway. I thought it would fit me well because I tend to play aggro decks a lot, and my opponents tend to be really good at making a comeback after they’re down to single-digit health.

There were also dry-erase boards in the shape of emotes, so I made one that said “Lost board control on turn 2? I concede to you.” I tend to get really frustrated at cards like Knife Juggler and other RNG-based cards that just completely destroy your early board (so much so that they basically just win the entire early game if their Knife Juggler hits, or they get smashed the entire game if their Knife Juggler misses). So, this is actually pretty accurate.

And finally, one of my friends convinced me to write “♥ I love reynad ♥” and hold the sign up while standing next to him. He was in a meeting with someone in this photo, but the person with whom he was talking actually noticed me and alerted reynad to my presence, thinking I was an actual fan who wanted his attention, rather than an employee at Tempo Storm just joking around … lol

My second lamb experience

After having my first lamb experience while traveling in Las Vegas, my friend and I wanted some more lamb, so we sought out a Persian restaurant nearby that offered lamb. The prices were a bit high, but we managed to find an okay deal on a combo dish that included some lamb.

My first lamb experience at a Persian restaurant

I had never eaten lamb before because it’s not very common in the United States. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in 2015, the top consumers of lamb were Sudan, Kazakhstan, and Australia, with Algeria trailing close behind. To put it in perspective, Sudan had a 10.5 kilogram per capita consumption of lamb, while Algeria had 7.1 kg. per capita, and the United States has 0.4 kg. per capita.

The lamb at this restaurant was a bit too well-done, especially compared to how much I had liked the rare lamb from the Cleo at SLS Las Vegas. It also contained bones, while the Cleo lamb did not. (In case you can’t tell, the lamb is next to the tomatoes in the photograph.)

I’m actually liking lamb, and will likely try to seek out some raw lamb so I can cook it myself at home to my preferred doneness level at much cheaper prices.
