I don’t really have any photos from BlizzCon

For me, BlizzCon is generally a scramble to get editorial work done as quickly as possible. Tempo Storm’s attendance at BlizzCon depends heavily on the quantity and quality of BlizzCon coverage from the previous year(s), so having sufficient good content up in a timely manner is important, not just for now, but for future convention years.

So, I usually end up spending a majority of my time attending offline panels, sitting in the media room uploading, then recharging in my hotel room. As a result, I didn’t really have many photos taken.

I do have one from when Tempo Storm’s Heroes of the Storm team was playing against Fnatic in the third game of a best-of-three series. Tempo Storm HotS had taken a game off Fnatic, but were in the process of getting reverse swept. I tweeted the photo out with the caption “pls no lose,” but my hopes didn’t come true, because this was the game after which Tempo Storm got eliminated.

However, I’m happy to announce that the convention grind is finally over. I almost had to extend my grind by accompanying our PLAYER­UNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS team to a boot camp in Santa Monica, CA, then to Intel Extreme Masters in Oakland, but luckily, our house manager was able to cover for me for that, so I finally get to relax.

Now it’s finally time to unwind for a bit, recover from over a month of field work (which I am very not used to, seeing as I usually just work peacefully from my desk), and catch up on everything I’ve missed over the past month.

A blue rare burger

I like my meat cooked medium rare, but when I order it as medium rare, it usually doesn’t come out medium rare. Historically, most restaurants overcook the meat so it ends up closer to medium than medium rare.

Because of that, I’ve developed a strategy to request meat cooked rare instead of medium rare. Then, the meat usually ends up closer to medium rare. In the cases that I run into restaurants that actually cook the meat properly rare, then that’s fine as well, because I’m ok with rare meat also.

A while back, scarra got me dinner with one of my friends, and to return the favor, I took him out to dinner last night. The restaurant we went to was a bit different … I asked for my burger cooked rare, and I ended up getting a blue rare burger.

And just like that, it’s all over.

It’s been a tough week, but I feel like I can finally say that TwitchCon was a success for Tempo Storm. There’s still another day left tomorrow for exhibitor move-out, but I won’t be participating in that because I need to be somewhere else for some other Tempo Storm related work.

I’m not a fan of big parties and I just feel overwhelmed and irritated when I go to them, so instead, I prefer to either go back to my lodging area after the convention hours, or at the very most, I am ok with going out in small groups. That’s what I did instead of attending the TwitchCon party at Dark Harbor – I went to get some dinner at Yard House near the convention center.

We ordered a ton of dishes as a table, and I was sitting at the corner of the table (like I usually do) so I wasn’t able to snap photos of everyone’s dishes, but here are the ones I got. The ahi tuna nachos were my appetizer, and the burger was my main dish.

The biggest part of the month is over, and now all I have left is a bit more traveling, another activity with Red Bull, BlizzCon Opening Week, and BlizzCon.

The end is getting ever so slightly closer.

… but I don’t think we’re quite ready yet

TwitchCon 2017 Prep, Day 3

We ended up doing big tasks on each day, but I think we sort of underestimated just how difficult all the smaller tasks would be. Now that our final full day is over and all we have left for preparation is the morning of the first day of the convention, I’m realizing that the tedious tasks actually take a whole lot longer than the tasks that everyone would assume would be harder.

All our merchandise shipments are in and we mostly have everything set up, but the final polish is taking some time. I actually ended up leaving sort of on time, but our merchandising director stayed back later to get even more work done on our booth.

Today was also the day that most people came into Long Beach, and convention badge pick-up started today, so the outside of the convention center was pretty busy, putting additional pressure on us due to the fact that the start of the convention now feels much more salient.

TwitchCon 2017 Prep, Day 3

This is our first time running an exhibitor booth at a convention, and my background when it comes to events is hosting them as a broadcast personality instead of actually taking care of all the logistics of how the event should work, so I’m sort of new to this and this has been a pretty good learning experience for all of us. I’m also a speaker at the panel, so this isn’t the only thing that I’ll be doing, so I still have some ways to go before I can call this TwitchCon a success.
