Photo Albums and Leadership

I’m still working on getting all my pictures organized in my Picasa Web account. If you want to keep track of my progress, you can view my public albums:

Also, in other random and slightly related news, my map markers are back to normal now. You may or may not remember from a very long time ago that my album locations map randomly showed a marker in Canada. I had no idea why that happened because I’ve never taken any photos or uloaded anything from Canada before. It looks like it randomly fixed itself.

Topic #222: Do you prefer to lead or follow? Or linger in the middle and never fully commit to anything?

My preference to lead or follow is highly dependent on the situation. If I have no idea what I’m doing, I am better off scouting out someone who does know what (s)he is doing and follow him/her. If I am confident that I am able to succeed in my task, I will be a leader. When I have built up a lot of experience in something and feel as if I am prepared to become a leader, I may start lingering in the middle to check my preparedness for leadership, but this usually lasts a short time and I usually either quickly fall back again as a follower, or quickly take control as a leader.

Seoul Market Foods Corner

This is another photograph I took yesterday when I went shopping at a Korean grocery store right before I went to eat at the Asian restaurant.

Seoul Market Foods Corner

As you can clearly see, the Seoul Market Foods Corner has three different kinds of food that you can choose from: clean foods, delicios foods, and healthy foods.

Do you want a clean, delicios food? Too bad, you can only have one or the other.

Do you want a delicios, healthy food? Sorry, that’s not possible either.

Do you want delicious food? You’re out of luck, because they only carry delicios food (without the u).

Topic #221: What is your favorite way to get physical exercise? Least favorite? What form of exercise have you always wanted to try? What about mental exercise?

My favorite way to get physical exercise as of right now is training at Chicago Martial Arts, the taekwondo academy that I am attending during the summer. Not only is it a good way to get exercise, it helps me refine my fighting and self-defense skills. Because of my rank and position, I also assist in the instruction of younger children, so it’s nice knowing that I’m helping kids become stronger and more physically capable.

In general, I like to get exercise by either running on a treadmill or using a weight machine in a cool, air conditioned area. I actually prefer running and exercising inside than outside because the feeling of air conditioning relaxes and comforts me. I like getting fresh air once in a while as well, but when I’m extremely tired, cold, dry, sharp air tends to make me feel better faster than natural, humid air.

As for mental exercise, I think the amount of studying I’m doing at university is enough for stimulating my brain. Now that I’m progressing through my degree studies, the topics I’m studying will become harder and more in-depth, so I don’t think I’m going to have any problems with a lack of mental exercise.

Yes, I realize that I have not been a very good tweeter lately. In the past week, I’ve only tweeted three times, including the tweet that I posted today declaring that I have not been a very good tweeter.

In other news, when I went to an Asian restaurant to have lunch today, I saw the weirdest tree I’ve ever seen in my life.

Tree

By some magical process, it seems like the bark on this tree somehow melted and then rehardened after it spread out on top of this guard rail.

Topic #220: Do you blog anonymously or do you blog as “yourself”? Why?

This is a pretty obvious topic for me – I blog as myself.

I think the only reason someone would make a blog anonymously is if they have some controversial things that they want to publicize, but they don’t want to suffer the consequences that come with publishing their ideas (like retaliation and criticism).

My blog obviously isn’t like that, and the main theme of my blog is my life and the sometimes interesting and sometimes boring things I do on a daily basis. It would be difficult to make such a blog like mine possible if I kept myself anonymous, because if readers want to really connect with me and my writing, it’s important to have some background information about the author so it’s possible to put everything into context.

I also avoid talking about controversial topics as much as possible if it doesn’t have a direct connection to what I did that day. I do this not only to avoid conflict, but also to keep my blog as easy-going as possible so people can come here knowing that they won’t run into anything that will irritate or bother them.

Missing Cars and Constructive Anger

What I’m Watching

A short while back, following a recommendation, I watched a movie called Dude, Where’s My Car? featuring Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott. I got the suggestion so long ago that I don’t remember who sent it to me, or where the copy of the suggestion even is. (Yes, I tried searching through GMail for “Dude, Where’s My Car?” and it found no results.)

This comedy movie is about two young males named Jesse and Chester who wake up one morning from a party and don’t remember where their car is. The problem is that their anniversaries with their girlfriends are that day, and their gifts are in their car. In a quest to find their car, Jesse and Chester retrace their steps to find out what they did last night, which may uncover some clues as to where the car is.

When on the quest, the boys soon realize that they were not up to much good once they realize they’re being chased by a transgendered prostitute for money and some odd space group for a rare, intergalactic device.

I thought that this was a silly and slightly dumb movie, but regardless, it was funny to watch. I would recommend this movie primarily for teenage males who are looking for a funny and light-mooded movie to watch.

Topic #219: Can anger be constructive?

The easy answer to this would be that yes, anger is constructive because it shows that anger is not very constructive.

The more insightful answer would be that yes, anger can be constructive because even though someone may not be very thoughtful when angry, they still have the experience of being angry, and they can look back on that experience in the future when they want to think about how they could react better if such a circumstances were to come up again.

Do Not Eat Moldy Bagels

Do you know what happens when you eat a moldy bagel?

I don’t know either, but I’m going to find out very soon.

Tip of the Day: If you’re about to eat a bagel, check what it looks like before you eat it. Otherwise, you might notice an odd dirt-like taste, then realize that you’re eating a moldy bagel after you’ve already finished over half of it.

Topic #217: Are you driven by your head or your heart? Or maybe by something else? How do you balance the conflicting forces for how to be?

This is actually a very coincidentally relevant topic, because I recently read a book about the importance of using both your logic and your emotions when making decisions, and knowing when to use each.

I’ve always been someone to make decisions based off of logic and reasoning, so I have historically been someone to be driven by my head. However, after reading the book How We Decide by Jonah Lehrer, I now make sure that some of my decisions are made by my emotions if I determine that my emotions would make better choices than my logic in that particular situation.

If you want to read more about this book, I wrote a short summary and review of it in my blog post from June 05, 2011.

Veterinarians and Tombstones

I brought my dog to the vet earlier this morning, and he needs a follow-up check-up in one week. If you have nothing better to do with your life, then it might be a good idea to remind me to schedule an appointment next Thursday so I don’t forget.

Topic #216: What do you want your tombstone to say?

I want my tombstone to say my name, the year I was born, and the year I will die. I’m a fan of simplicity, so I’d rather have my tombstone be to-the-point and not have any unnecessary stuff written all over it.

And either way, I don’t even know what else is put on a tombstone.
