wtfpwned by a Bus Driver

At 1:46 AM today, I finished working and went out to the bus stop to wait for the bus. I saw the bus approaching, but for some odd reason, it was going a lot faster than normal. Assuming that the bus driver didn’t see me, I waved a little bit to get his attention. He drove right past me.

Suddenly, he screeches to a halt a little while later, and opens the doors to the bus. I put on my -___- face and start walking toward the bus.

Several seconds later, when I’m about to reach the doors of the bus, the bus starts moving again, and I have to do an awkward speed-skip-hop-jump-run to make sure I get on.

Apparently the bus driver had been working straight since March 31 at 5:45 AM, was getting tired, and he wanted to play some April Fools jokes on the riders.

After I finally got on the bus, he noticed that there were a handful of people waiting at one of the later stops. As they entered, he pulled out a device and pretended like he was radioing someone.

“Yeah, I got them right here, they’re entering the bus.”

Then he asks the group, “Were you at all involved with the incident that just occurred at Langdon [Street]? I have the police department here and they want to know.”

The group denies their involvement and starts getting nervous as the driver says into his radio device, “They say they don’t know anything about it.”

Then, he pinpoints an individual and says, “Are you returning from a party?”

“Uh… no.”

“Have you been drinking tonight?”

“Uh… no.”

“Was there underage drinking at this party?”

“No!”

“Ah ha, so you were at a party. Why are you lying to me?”

“…”

And he proceeded to continue and freak out everyone else until he yells “APRIL FOOLS!” and starts driving again.

I’ve never seen a bus driver pull an April Fools joke on anyone before, and I would have to say that it was quite an interesting end to my night.

… Then it snowed this morning. Even the weather is pulling jokes on me.

I was going to take a series of pictures to show what I did today, similar to what I did yesterday, but I ended up staying at the family business all day and didn’t get a chance to do anything exciting or action-packed.

So I put the two pictures that I took below.

The missing vowels in the title of this picture are supposed to represent the missing meat from the bones.

I’m so awesome and clever.

… Shut up

I went around and wrote “EL GRAN LAUNDROMAT” on all the stuff at our family business to reduce the chances of people stealing our equipment.

And because I was bored.

Action-Packed and Bloody Day

I got my first ever blood test today, which was slightly but not really eventful. Back at my high school, I helped out during the blood drives and I always heard of the people that weren’t able to bleed quickly enough that they were sitting there with a needle in their arm for almost an hour. I was moderately concerned that I would be one of those people, but apparently I’m a fast bleeder and I was done bleeding in under a minute. After I was done, I went out into the waiting room while my parents finished their check-ups, and took this picture.

Waiting Room

There were two receptionists, one that spoke Korean (the one standing up) and one that did not (the one seated). The old woman in the hat kept on talking in Korean to the receptionist that didn’t speak Korean, asking where the bus stop was to the closest grocery store. That was moderately entertaining.

After getting all our tests done, my parents and I went to a nearby Korean buffet called the Senoya. We went to a buffet because we had to skip both breakfast and lunch for our blood tests, and we assumed that we were going to eat a lot. Ends up, I ate less than I normally would have in a non-starved state.

Senoya Restaurant

After we got home, my mom cut some watermelon that we bought from a supermarket earlier today. Ends up, the watermelon was overripe and decaying. I took some pictures of it so I could email the supermarket with the photos as proof that the watermelon was bad, but they ended up giving us a refund for it anyway.

Decaying Watermelon

And finally, at the end of the day, I picked off my gauze band-aid because the tape holding it onto my arm was unbelievably itchy.

Hey, That’s My Blood.

And that’s how I spent my action-packed day.

Dell Customer Support Fail, Part VII

Yes, the Dell repair technician finally came to fix my laptop today, and my it is finally working. I can finally use my laptop without attaching it to an external monitor.

But there’s still one problem.

The screen that Dell sent to the repair technician to swap out with the broken screen that I had wasn’t exactly new. The package that it came it was labeled as refurbished, and it wasn’t refurbished enough because there are darkened areas at the top left of the screen, similar to what magnet damaged looked like on those larger CRT monitors. Dell said that they would offer me a full machine exchange if this third repair didn’t work, but seeing as my laptop is still working and it would be annoying to get it exchanged, I think I’m just going to use it.

Maybe if I feel like I want a new laptop over this coming summer or something, I’ll finally report that the third repair wasn’t perfect and get an exchange.

I’m also thinking about writing a more cohesive anecdote about this in my Anecdotes section on the articles page, seeing as this might be a pretty interesting story for someone to read, but it’s currently distributed among seven different blog posts.

Pizza Fail

This post is over 15 years old and may contain information that is incorrect, outdated, or no longer relevant.

I went to a nearby pizza store today to get some pizza for dinner, and a not-that-interesting-or-funny-but-sort-of-interesting-and-funny thing happened that I decided to share.

I placed my order online, and about 18 minutes after placing my order, I went next door to the pizza store to pick up my pizza.

When I got there, there was a man attempting to pay for his pizza with a gift card. The only problem was, when the employees scanned the gift card, the machine continued to reject it. After standing there for about ten minutes, the other customer said that this wasn’t the first time he had a problem with a gift card – apparently, the last time, when he initially received the gift card as a gift, it was supposed to have $50 on it but instead had $0. After proving that the payment was made to put the money on the gift card, he received a new gift card (that they discovered today wasn’t even a valid card).

Eventually, the other customer paid with a different form of payment, and I moved up in the line.

That’s when I noticed that they had two card readers, one separate for credit and debit cards, and one attached to the register.

I have a good feeling that the gift card wasn’t working because they were trying to swipe it in like a credit or debit card instead of using their own gift card reader.

I decided not to tell them because they made me wait for about 13 minutes.
