I’m slowly becoming shorter and shorter of time as my pile of coursework is getting higher and higher.

As you have probably guessed by now, this means less intensive blog posts and more time spent on fin­ishing homework and not failing.

But it’s okay.

The sun is still shining and the sky is still blue.

Printing to the Correct Printer Fail

So I was trying to print a document from my printer today, and it wouldn’t print.

I tried restarting, checking cables, and cleaning cable ends, but nothing worked. After I wasn’t able to notice an easy solution, I started doing some intense troubleshooting.

After about ten minutes, I noticed what the problem was.

I was printing to a network printer 1.4 miles (2.3 kilometers) away rather than the printer sitting next to me plugged into my laptop.

Don’t do that.

Topic #256: What is your favorite day of the week? And why?

My answer to this question will probably change depending on the time of year.

As of right now, because I am actively attending classes at university, my favorite day of the week is Friday. Friday usually means that I have a majority of the next two days to relax and catch up on any work that I didn’t get done during the weekday. It also means that I get spend an hour or two sleeping more than regular weekdays.

I select Friday over Saturday or Sunday because I like the feeling of knowing that easy(/easier) times are coming in the future more than I like the feeling of actually experiencing the easy(/easier) time. This is mostly because once Saturday or Sunday comes around, I end up finding more work that I have to get done and don’t realize that it’s more relaxing than a weekday.

Topic #253: What is your favorite way to procrastinate?

My favorite way to procrastinate is to do something that I’ve been procrastinating on.

For example, if I have to study for an exam, I do my homework instead. If I have to do my homework, I work instead. If I have to work, I blog instead. If I have to blog, I study for an exam instead.

As you can see, everything comes full circle and I end up getting everything done while still getting the joy of being a procrastinator.

Shattered Light Bulbs

You know those plastic shades on floor lamps that protect the light bulb and make it not excruciatingly bright? Those are apparently there for a reason.

When I brought a floor lamp to Madison, the lamp broke a little bit in the car so the plastic lamp shade shattered and was no longer usable. The base of the lamp broke too so the concrete base is no longer connected to the upright rod, so the lamp doesn’t stand up straight very well.

This lamp toppled over today.

The light bulb got smashed into the wall.

So yeah, if you have a broken floor lamp in your room, you might want to put foam or padding on all your walls so the light bulb doesn’t shatter into 30 pieces if the lamp happens to tip over.

Where Did All the Dots Go?

Tip of the Day: When making copies of documents for your students to read, make sure the documents have the dots over their lower-case is. It might not seem like a big deal, but when you’re reading pages upon pages of documents with all the dots over the is missing, it gets really annoying.

Where did all the dots on the is go?

(Before you go to email me about how it’s supposed to be i’s and not is, think about what an apostrophe means. An apostrophe is used for contractions and to show possession. There isn’t a letter missing between the i and the s, and nothing is owned by the i. Instead, it’s a plural, which means an s is attached without an apostrophe.)
