Got Wildfire Zyra for free

Apparently Riot thought I was a good example of positive behavior, and included me in the list of people receiving free mystery gifts.

When I got the notification, I realized that something very ironic had happened.

Over a year ago, I wrote a blog post regarding why I didn’t like Haunted Zyra, which was the new Harrowing skin at the time. To summarize, I disliked it because I didn’t feel like it resemble Zyra’s personality very well. To me, Zyra’s physical appearance should be that of an innocent plant, luring her opponents, then turning into a vicious killing monster when they approach.

Haunted Zyra, as well as Wildfire Zyra, don’t have that innocent look to them. Instead, they seem rather violent in appearance. That’s why I chose not to purchase either of those skins, and instead, stick with the default skin.

In my opinion, a skin like Death Blossom Zyra would be more fitting for her (if you’re curious about what it would look like, Elise currently has a Death Blossom skin).

So, back to the free mystery gift … this is what I got.

“You don’t want to buy this skin because you don’t like it? Well, we’ll force you to own it instead, then!” —Rito Gaemz

Although I don’t like the particular skin that I received, I’m still thankful that I was one of the people who even received a skin at all, and I’m grateful that Riot is rewarding positive behavior in the community.

Fix for League of Legends client/launcher not opening in Patch 4.21

Since yesterday, I’ve been having problems trying to open League of Legends. Assuming it was just a problem with Riot’s servers (because we know there’s plenty of those, such as the ones that affected my stream two days ago and I taught everyone how to Attempt to Reconnect), I just ignored it.

When I tried again today, the problem was still there, so I started digging around.

I went to my League of Legends folder to look at some logs, and found the following lines inside one of my patcher logs:

ERROR| RemotingClient: Failed to resolve host:port 'localhost:2997' to an ipv4 address.
       getaddrinfo returned: 11001
ERROR| Riot::Client::BrowserProcess::Init: Unable to connect to app process.

To fix that, I updated my hosts file to allow it to associate an IPv4 address with localhost.

To do that, navigate to:

C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc

Open the hosts file. I recommend doing so with something like Notepad.exe, but any plain-text editor will work.

Add the following line of text to your hosts file:

127.0.0.1 localhost

If there are any other lines that contain localhost after a space, remove it (for example, if your file contains “::1 localhost,” remove that line).

That fixed the problem for me, and my launcher started working again. Unfortunately, if that doesn’t work for you, I don’t have any other suggestions, because I stopped researching once I found a solution that worked for me.

Top lane jungle Nocturne

There’s a new League of Legends strategy going around. It’s to have your random top lane Fiora go AFK and get your jungler to play two roles.

It works, I swear.

Told you.

So basically, the enemy Teemo wasn’t that smart and pushed all the way under the allied top lane turret, so I got an easy kill on him at level 3 when I had double buffs. I used that lead, as well as the ability to farm both my jungle and a solo lane, to snowball my strength into mid game, where I was 8/1 at one point.

I continued to apply extreme pressure everywhere on the map and allowed my two carries, Twisted Fate and Caitlyn, to farm up and get kills. By late game, the enemy team was so used to me being a terrifying threat that everyone focused me down, which allowed my two carries, as well as my support, to stay alive and deal heavy damage to the enemy team.

So we ended up winning most of the team fights, then pushed into their base to win the game.
