I finally found a place that sells raw lamb

Albertsons. It actually wasn’t that hard.

Homemade lamb

Ever since I moved to California and tried lamb, I’ve really liked it. I had never had it before when I was still living in the Chicagoland suburbs, and I thought the flavor of the meat and fat was interesting. The lean meat itself wasn’t too noticeably distinctly different, but mixed in with a bit of lamb fat, it had a very unique flavor.

In an attempt to eat more lamb, I searched a bunch of different areas, and ended up getting lamb at a few different restaurants. But, lamb (possibly due to the fact that it isn’t often ordered) was noticeably more expensive than any other meat, and seeing as I cook pretty often at home, I wanted to find some raw lamb that I could just throw into a frying pan and prepare on my own.

I looked at a few grocery stores at which I often shop, and none of them had it … but then I realized I forgot one of the most obvious locations – Albertsons – and found it pretty quickly in their “unique meats” area. This is a small section in their regular meat area where they stock lamb, veal, grass-fed angus beef, and other meats that are a bit different than the normal beef, pork, chicken, and fish.

It actually wasn’t substantially more expensive either, so I guess that means I’ll be able to eat lamb a lot more often now.

Chuck E. Cheese’s has the most expensive pizza ever

T-Mobile Tuesdays gave me a free pizza from Chuck E. Cheese’s today.

The price of that thing? Apparently US$7. And just because it fills the whole photograph doesn’t mean it’s big … I just snapped it from very close to capture the detail and get a higher-quality photograph. It’s actually about the diameter equal to when I stretch out my thumb and middle finger as far as they can go.

I obviously didn’t want to eat in at Chuck E. Cheese’s because of all the children, so I placed an order to go. Unfortunately, I had to sit and wait inside Chuck E. Cheese’s for them to actually finish making the pizza anyway, so I got to suspiciously be an adult inside a children’s play place. … Or so I thought.

Luckily, I’m not the only one who has T-Mobile as a carrier, and I also wasn’t the only one who wanted to take advantage of their free pizza from T-Mobile Tuesdays. While I was waiting for my pizza, I managed to find a corner of the place where there were a ton of adults just sitting at tables enjoying their free pizza … lol

My first eel experience in California

I went to a ramen house with a few of my friends today.

If you’ve been keeping up with my blog and are familiar with my eating habits, you know that I hate eating hot liquids. You may be wondering what exactly I would get at a ramen house? Luckily, even restaurants dedicated to serving hot liquids have dry food options.

I occasionally ate eel back when I still lived in Illinois, as my mom would sometimes cook it Korean-style as a side dish. But, since moving to California, I haven’t had eel.

I like having variety in my life, so usually when I go to a restaurant, I’ll order something different every time. Because I didn’t have eel for so long, that was today’s dish of choice.

My second lamb experience

After having my first lamb experience while traveling in Las Vegas, my friend and I wanted some more lamb, so we sought out a Persian restaurant nearby that offered lamb. The prices were a bit high, but we managed to find an okay deal on a combo dish that included some lamb.

My first lamb experience at a Persian restaurant

I had never eaten lamb before because it’s not very common in the United States. According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in 2015, the top consumers of lamb were Sudan, Kazakhstan, and Australia, with Algeria trailing close behind. To put it in perspective, Sudan had a 10.5 kilogram per capita consumption of lamb, while Algeria had 7.1 kg. per capita, and the United States has 0.4 kg. per capita.

The lamb at this restaurant was a bit too well-done, especially compared to how much I had liked the rare lamb from the Cleo at SLS Las Vegas. It also contained bones, while the Cleo lamb did not. (In case you can’t tell, the lamb is next to the tomatoes in the photograph.)

I’m actually liking lamb, and will likely try to seek out some raw lamb so I can cook it myself at home to my preferred doneness level at much cheaper prices.

After a long and eventful trip with a story that I’ll tell some other time, we arrived in Las Vegas just barely in time for our dinner with Blizzard staff and Heroes of the Storm influencers. It was served family style for the table, and came with a wide assortment of dishes.

After some hummus with tahini (which I forgot to photograph), we got some greek salid with feta, olives, tomato, cucumber, and oregano.

Although I personally do not drink alcohol, other people at my table did; I photographed a strawberry drink that one of my friends got.

Next up was some brussel sprouts with capers, almonds, and vinaigrette.

This is where we started getting some meat, with octopus being the first in line.
