A majority of my day today was spent programming for the Badger Herald‘s website. There will be a new staff page being rolled out within a few days with photos of all our staff members along with each of their entries. There’s also a submission form to ask one of our Wednesday columnists not-family-friendly questions.

A good chunk of my day also consisted of trying to figure out how to edit the CSS of our website so random styles don’t get changed as side effects of changing other styles.

Our entire website design and template was created and coded by our former web director. For what­ever reason, he decided it was a good idea to put the styling in multiple .css files and spread them all over the place so I can’t figure out where to edit the CSS.

One thing I’ve been attempting to do for a while is create a module on the home page that shows the articles that have the most comments. All the coding is done, but the only reason you don’t see it on the home page today is because I can’t get the styling right.

My first attempt resulted in all the hyperlinks showing up all the proper size, but all the subheadlines (that say when the article was posted and how many comments it has) ended up massively large. My second attempt resulted in all the subheadlines showing up the proper size, but all the hyperlinks showing up so small that nobody could read it without using two pairs of spectacles.

In other news, while looking up bus arrival times to go to the office, I witnessed two buses disappearing off the GPS tracking system and into thin air today.

I didn’t physically see the buses disappearing, but the GPS map claimed that they did.
