As most of you have probably heard by now, Osama bin Laden is supposedly dead, according to the American government. Working for a newspaper, most of my co-workers were extremely excited because this is breaking news. Our editor-in-chief published an article about Osama’s death on our website.

But there was one problem.

Topic #100: Your phone, laptop, tablet, iPad, and desktop are dead. Will you make it through a normal working day and evening? What would you miss the most?

I think that if I was cut off from my electronics and Internet access for a full day, I would still be fine, as long as it was only for one day.

I generally don’t use my phone that much at all, so that wouldn’t really be much of a problem at all. I would probably feel incomplete without having a laptop or iPod Touch to be able to check my email, but I’m sure that there aren’t many people who need my attention so urgently that they can’t wait 24 hours. I don’t have a tablet or iPad. As for my desktop, I don’t have a desktop of my own, but I have a desktop at my workplace that I can use to work that day. If I’m not allowed to use that desktop either, I can just switch a working day with my assistant and not have any problems. During class, I take notes with a pen on a notebook anyway, so I won’t be needing my laptop urgently for class.

I think the thing I would miss most is using my laptop or iPod Touch for email and instant messaging communications. Email and instant messaging acts as my link to my friends and other people I know, and it’s especially important for me because of how little I go out and meet up with people in person.

Ever since Firefox 4 came out, everyone’s been pressuring me to upgrade to it. Uncharacteristically, I refused because I was satisfied with Firefox 3.something/whateverIwasusing. The biggest noticeable improvement in Firefox 4 was that the top navigation area of the browser was condensed. The only problem was, for me, it wouldn’t be a condensation, it would be an expansion. With Firefox 3, I was using an add-on called Personal Menu that allowed me to already get rid of a row at the top of my browser.

The thing that finally got me to upgrade was the app tab feature. These tabs act as small tabs that contain the websites that you use most often. The best part was that you can’t accidentally close them (which I tend to do frequently). They’re shrunk down in width to just the icon, so it barely takes up any space and allows more space to read the titles of other tabs that you have open.

As of right now, I have three app tabs – one for my email, one for my calendar, and one for Twitter. If any of these get updated (such as receiving a new email or one of the people I’m following tweeting something), the tab glows blue and I notice that something was updated in the tab.

So if you’re like me and procrastinating upgrading to Firefox 4, you should probably do it in the near future to take advantage of the app tabs. And apparently, it’s faster than the previous browser; I haven’t noticed any difference, but I guess it doesn’t matter if I notice it or not if it was already statistically proven.

Topic #99: Have you ever considered writing a book? If so what would it be about? Make a list of the ideas you want to cover, or the themes it might have. If you’ve never considered writing a book, what other major work have you thought about (a movie? a symphony?). Write a paragraph or two about what you imagine it would be like.

I actually have considered writing a book. One of my friends, Garrett Royce, was thinking about writing a book and he motivated me to write a book as well. I was originally planning on racing him to see who could finish a book first, but I ended up not actually writing a book.

I was planning on writing a book about the fourth dimension and how it acts as a scientific explanation to Christianity. For a while, the articles on my website about the fourth dimension were one of the most popular articles I had. After I finished my presentation of it at school, my entire class was intrigued and a handful of people contacted me afterward for more information. The original information I presented was in short blog post form, and the paper I wrote for my class didn’t turn out how I wanted it to because I had to follow a rubric. I wanted to write a full-length book about it in a cohesive and understandable way, but I ended up not following through with my intentions. I still want to write more about the fourth dimension, but there’s a lot of other things that I have to finish first.

Topic #98: Write a rant about the pointlessness of rants. If you don’t like paradoxical topics, write a rant about why you don’t like paradoxes. If you don’t want to write about that, write about how disappointed you are with my lame choices for topics.

I actually don’t think that all rants are pointless. Rants written by people of power usually do have some effect if a lot of people read it because people with good persuasion skills could alter the thoughts of many people at once just by writing a critical piece. However, seeing as the prompt is about how useless rants are, I’ll focus on the remainder of rants – the rants written by regular people that are generally not read very much.

I agree that it’s important for people to write about their opinions and experiences and share what they have learned so others can learn from it too. However, most people with blogs don’t have very many readers. Is it really worth the time to write an elaborate post when only a handful of people are going to read it? What’s the threshhold for the number of readers required to make a rant worth writing? Do I even have enough readers to make this rant worth writing?

In case you were wondering, the reason I was extremely busy yesterday was because I had to finish up an extra credit paper for educational psychology. It was due before midnight last night, but my professor gave me a few extra hours of time if I needed it (which I did, and used).

I was originally hoping for the topic of the paper to be about the effects of victimization of bullying for adolescents, but I ended up being short of time and not being able to find enough information. I used the information that I did find, which was the reason particular individuals are bullied, and why bullies bully in the first place. This surprisingly filled up the entire length limit, so I didn’t have to add anything more in. I have no idea how I managed to write so much about a topic that seems like it can be covered in a few sentences.

I would post my paper here like I did with my last educational psychology paper, but I don’t think this one is quite worthy enough to be publicly posted for everyone to read. So you don’t get to read it.

Topic #97: If you could pilot any vehicle, what would it be? (F-35, Death Star, The Enterprise, an aircraft carrier, anything goes). Why? Where would you go? What would you do?

I don’t know enough about aircraft so I can’t name a specific vehicle, but I would like to pilot something similar to a helicopter that doesn’t need a lot of space to take off and land. If I know correctly, airplanes need a lot of space to accelerate before taking off, but helicopters can start flying by lifting off vertically.

I would use this helicopter to go places where I need to go. Now that I’m at university, I don’t really need a vehicle to take me places because I can just walk, but once I go back to my hometown for summer break, having a helicopter would be extremely useful.

For example, instead of driving in a car for about two hours to go back to my hometown, I could just pack all my stuff into a helicopter and fly back. When I go to my local community college to take classes over the summer, instead of driving 20 minutes, I could just fly to class. When I go to my family’s business to work, instead of driving 30 minutes, i can just fly there and not have to worry about traffic.

Other than for practical uses, I don’t really have a strong desire to use aircraft. I know that a lot of people have an odd interest in cars and planes, but I find them quite boring and bland.

I just decided to address something that a handful of people noticed about my Twitter account. The temporary difference that you saw was present because I was doing a small experiment with my Twitter account. Everything has gone back to normal, so if you check now, the difference will be gone.

If you didn’t notice anything over the past two days, then that’s good. There’s no reason to be concerned about it because it was a temporary experiment and everything is back to normal now.

Topic #96: Write about something to do with bacon. Do you like it? hate it? Wish there more of it, or less? Do you like the way it looks, or do you wish you never saw it again? What do you think of bacon flavored chocolate, or the significance of the phrase “bringing home the bacon?”

I like bacon, but I pretty much like all meat. I don’t know if there needs to be less bacon, but I know for sure that there doesn’t need to be more of it, especially not in America. There are plenty of fat people who do not need to be eating more greasy meat regularly.

I don’t really mind the way it looks because it just looks like strips of meat. I don’t really pay attention to the way meat looks when I’m eating it, particularly because I’m better off eating it thinking about it as food rather than a dead, cooked animal.

I have never heard of bacon-flavored chocolate before, and I don’t think it sounds like a very good idea. I’ve never tried it before, so if I’m offered bacon-flavored chocolate, I would probably try it, but I don’t think it would be something that I would like eating. As for the last question, I have no idea what “bringing home the bacon” means, and I’m not very motivated to Google it because I dislike phrases with non-literal meanings and prefer to use precise, accurate language.
